Mastering the College Experience has been instructionally designed to meet the needs of students whether they're entering college from high school or returning to further their education. This course provides tools, techniques, hints, ideas, illustrations, examples, methods, procedures, processes, skills, resources, and suggestions for SUCCESS! Of all the classes students will take in college, this could be the one they'll use most during their lifetime. The twenty-six 30-minute programs feature seven college students actually working through the various “Power Processes” within the text.

Mastering the College Experience
Lesson 1:  Welcome to College offers a general overview of college with an emphasis on making a commitment to learn. Lesson 14:  Thinking Creatively explores the nature of creativity and offers exercises and techniques to stimulate the creative thinking process.
Lesson 2:  The First Step discusses honest self-assessment. “Discovery and Intention Journal Entry System” is introduced, as well as “The Discovery Wheel.” Lesson 15:  Thinking Critically focuses on the realm of logic and analysis. Critical thinking skills and problem solving are discussed in depth.
Lesson 3:  Ideas Are Tools covers the concept of learning styles and features four stages of learning. Lesson 16:  Math and Science: A 3-D Solution focuses on more specific problem-solving skills that will helpstudents succeed in math and science courses.
Lesson 4:  Finding the Time discusses short-term time management: creating to-do lists, prioritizing activities, and scheduling. Lesson 17:  Research: Solving a Mystery explains how to conduct research with an emphasis on the resources available at the library.
Lesson 5:  Looking Ahead discusses long-range time management? knowing one's own values and ideals, how to set goals and plan the use of time?months or years into the future. Lesson 18:  Writing Well—The First Draft explores how to get started on writing papers by presenting steps and processes in creating a first draft.
Lesson 6:  You've Got a Great Memory offers helpful tips on memory, its processes, and various techniques to improve memory. Lesson 19:  Writing Well—The Final Presentation looks at the process of turning a rough draft into a polished paper or presentation.
Lesson 7:  Muscle Reading deals with the basic strategy of Muscle Reading, and discusses a nine-step approach to help supercharge study habits. Lesson 20:  Communication explores the communication loop and offers tips on improving communication skills and introduces the theory of “multiple intelligences.”
Lesson 8:  Reading Challenges illustrates how the basic strategy of Muscle Reading can be altered to handle special challenges, such as finding time for studying when children need to be cared for, as well as motivation tips. Lesson 21:  Relationships describes the key ingredients of healthy as well as unhealthy relationships, and relates how good relationship skills can lead to success in school and in life.
Lesson 9:  Taking Notes demonstrates specific note-taking formats and their processes. Lesson 22:  Money and Finances examines general principles of money management and encourages students to make a habit of financial planning and budgeting. Special tax and financial tips are covered to help students pay for college.
Lesson 10:  Challenges Worth Noting presents some real-world note-taking challenges and offers solutions. This lesson also introduces many different ways distance learning courses are delivered. Lesson 23:  Take Care of Your Machine explores several aspects of maintaining health and wellness.
Lesson 11:  Preparing for the Test discusses proper test-preparation techniques. The power of cooperative learning and steps for forming a solid study group are discussed. Lesson 24:  Preventing Life Crashes focuses on specific threats to students' health, how to prevent them and how to deal with them if they happen.
Lesson 12:  This Is Not a Test presents various ways to manage the causes and symptoms of test anxiety. Lesson 25:  Charting Your Course deals with the development of skills in planning and managing careers, and discusses various career resources.
Lesson 13:  Embracing Diversity explores the value of diversity, and the negative effects of stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination, and racism. Lesson 26:  Mastering Your Life reviews skills, strategies, techniques, and attitudes learned in previous lessons, and discusses how best to apply them to college and to life in general.
