Music Fundamentals Online teaches the fundamental elements of music and gives students a basic introduction to music theory, ear training, and sight singing. The 15-lesson course includes easily managed interactive assignments and tests, lectures, practice sessions and skills checks, listening exercises, concert attendance, opportunities to participate in online chats and threaded discussions, and other collaborative learning opportunities. The theory, ear-training, and sight-singing aspects of the course are progressive and complementary, although no musical knowledge is necessary to begin the course. Ear-training sessions are included in a separate section of the student guide, which serves as a combination textbook/workbook for the course. Using a method that is both simple and extremely effective, progressive exercises allow students to grasp the basics of singing, recognizing, and writing out scale degrees, intervals, and rhythms.
