Child Development: Stepping Stones is a fully integrated instructional system that embraces academic theory, scientific discoveries, and practical applications. The course presents developmental processes in three distinct categories or domains—biosocial, cognitive, and psychosocial. The summary and special topic lessons provide an in-depth look at the “whole child” and consider various factors affecting the developing child. Each video lesson is a complete lesson and incorporates original videography of biological processes, as well as historical and contemporary research. The lessons provide students with a chance to observe children and hear from many leading child development experts and medical professionals. Stories of challenge, relationships, investigation, hope, and inspiration are told using original footage of real-life case studies, which provide students with insights into key concepts and principles of child development. The integrated components of this learning system were instructionally designed to reach students with various learning styles.

Child Development: Stepping Stones Online is a ready-to-use turnkey course hosted by Coast Learning Systems. The online course is fully customizable and features quality videos, interactive exercises and activities, and quizzes. Instructors can customize this course by adding their own activities, additional assignments, Internet research, discussion forums, and grade values before they start using the course or whenever they see the need. The course is presented in Moodle, and links can be provided to allow access from any LMS/CMS. The Coast team provides student technical support related to course access.

There is NO FEE charged to instructors or institutions when an online course from Coast Learning Systems is adopted. The same holds true for instructors wishing to add our online course to a hybrid, blended, or traditional course. Students must purchase a one-time use serial access number. Serial number packages are available directly from Coast Learning Systems. Codes can be ordered as a bundle, with a complete set of video lessons on DVD or separately without the DVDs. The bundled option is provided for students who do not have Internet access capable of supporting streaming media.
